Make Sure Your Using A Licensed HVAC Contractor

Making sure to hire a licensed, bonded, and insured HVAC contractor can mean the difference between a successful installation and a homeowner’s worst nightmare.

Hiring a contractor that is insured with both liability insurance as well as worker’s compensation insurance is necessary. Liability insurance will cover any property damage that may result from the work being performed.  Workers compensation insurance will insure that you, the customer, will not be held responsible for paying the worker’s wages after an accident or injury, regardless of who was at fault.

Hiring a contractor that is licensed insures that the contractor has completed a registration process proving that they hold minimum insurance and bonding requirements needed to receive a license from the government agency that handles licensing in the area where the work is being performed.  Often, a contractor’s license is a prerequisite for applying for a building permit, if your job requires it.

A bonded HVAC contractor will protect you, the customer, if the contractor fails to complete the job or meet other contractual obligations.  Bonding insures that you, the customer, will not be held responsible if the contactor fails to cover the cost of supplies or pay their workers.  Bonding also covers the repair or replacement of substandard work caused by the contractor’s negligence.

You can check to see if who you hired has a contractor’s license by visiting www.myfloridalicense.com.  You can search by name, license number, city or town as well as by license type.

The Importance of a clean air filter.

best air filters

When was the last time you changed your air conditioner’s air filter?  The average home A/C air filter should be replaced once a month.  Doing so not only provides your home with fresh, clean air, but also plays a very important role in keeping your A/C system working properly.  A dirty filter can drastically reduce your system’s lifespan, cause damage requiring repairs, and have a big impact on energy efficiency.   According to the U.S. Department of Energy, making sure to have clean filters in your home can save you around 5-15% on your energy bill.  If you have any questions about air filters or other HVAC related questions feel free to contact a Gembecki Service expert today and be sure to ask about our maintenance program.
